Twilio, a cloud communications platform, announced plans to acquire SendGrid, an email marketing platform, in an all-stock transaction valued at about $2 billion.
“Increasingly, our customers are asking us to solve all of their strategic communications challenges — regardless of channel,” said Jeff Lawson, Co-Founder and CEO of Twilio, in a statement. “Email is a vital communications channel for companies around the world, and so it was important to us to include this capability in our platform.”
"We are soon to be a part of the Twilio family and once the merger is completed, will join a proven, successful and rapidly growing cloud communications platform that is aligned with our developer-centric roots, as well as our mission and values,” said Sameer Dholakia, CEO of SendGrid, in a statement to Demand Gen Report. “Joining Twilio will allow us to accelerate our journey towards a shared vision of offering one trusted platform to fuel the future of customer communications."
